religion
We will be concentrating on the season of Advent and the lives of December saints. Some saints we will be studying are: Saint Lucy and St. Nicholas.
The students will be listening to me read many Christmas stories during this magical season. My favorites are the ones from "Christmas Soup For the Soul"; stories for children, about children!

Language Arts:
We have a couple fun writing pieces to work on this month. Monday we will begin a persuasive piece. Your child will take on the persona of a literary bad/naughty such as: The Big Bad Wolf, Goldilocks, Wicked Witch of the West, among others. Their purpose is to convince Santa to take them off the "naughty list" and put them on the "good list". I will be sure to have them record these on SeeSaw! I can't wait to hear their arguments/persuasions! We know how persuasive they can be!
They will also write either an ABC poem or an acrostic; with a Christmas theme. We will continue to work in our Wonders series as well.

math
Our Chapter 5 test is Monday, December 3rd. We will start dividing larger numbers by a one digit divisor this week. This can be a very challenging skill for most students. Please help support your child by asking them how it's going and checking their homework.

Science
The module we are now studying covers Energy Transfers by Light. There are lots of fun interactive activities in the Inspire website for your child to explore. We will be doing these in class, but they are also a great way to reinforce what we learned. When test time rolls around, remember there is always a Testmoz practice quiz to help them prepare. I would have them keep taking it until they score at least 90%.
Christmas Book Exchange
We will be having a "book exchange" grab bag type activity the last week we are together before Christmas break. I will send hone an information flyer, but here's the basics: each child will bring in a new, wrapped book to exchange. We sit in a circle, I read a story, and books get passed around. Please have the book to school by Tuesday, December 18th.
I will also send home a Scholastic book order this week for anyone who would like to read over the break!

I enjoyed meeting all of you during conferences. It's always good to connect with parents. Thank you for being open and honest. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns as we continue the 4th grade journey.
I wish all of you a blessed Christmas season with family and friends. Christmas is always better when you you look at it through the eyes of your children. I know it's become more special for my husband and myself since our grandchildren were born! God Bless!
