curriculum updates
religion
We continue to study the liturgical season of Lent, focusing more on the events of Holy Week. We will be completing activities, watching videos, and using Kahoots to enhance our learning of this important time in the life of Jesus. We are also discussing morality and ethics through the eyes of a 4th grader.
So many of the students are altar servers. They seem to really enjoy this ministry, and I love seeing them at mass on the weekends!

math
We are continuing to work with operations involving fractions: fractions of a whole number, and adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. These concepts can be challenging. Please encourage your child to keep trying and practicing!
language arts
We have just begun Unit 4 in our Wonders series. Our usual procedure is for spelling tests on Friday and vocabulary tests every Monday. Spelling Menus are always due on Friday.
We will do more writing this final quarter of the school year also. Look for "Paragraph of the Week" assignments every week. We also continue to hone our grammar, punctuation, and capitalization skills. I have seen lots of improvement in these areas!
Our final Diocesan Writing Assessment will be started very soon. It is an expository piece, which will be done on the state your child chose earlier in the school year. They will have a packet of directions/tools to help them complete this essay. Please take a look at it, but make sure they do not leave it at home. It will be used in school each day.

Social studies
We have learned a lot about Illinois recently, but we are not quite finished. I can't wait to see their projects and to finish up the Illinois lessons. The students earn a grade for their completed Illinois Packet and there will be a test on the unit.
Next we visit the Southwest Region of the United States, and end our study with the West! Remember, encourage your child to use the study guide given at the beginning of each chapter. It is the best way to prepare for the chapter test.
science
We have moved from structures and functions of plants, to structures and functions of animals, including adaptations for survival. We have experienced a few digital interactives on our Inspire website, and completed some hands on inquiries. There will be a test coming up soon. I will give the students a testmoz number, which is an online quiz to help them prepare for the test. They have used testmoz before.
NOTES:
Please look at your child's assignment notebook every night. Talk to them about what they have been doing in school. Ask them about homework, and any problems or concerns they may have. Talk about their accomplishments and celebrate their successes!

Thank you, again, for all the kind words, prayers, masses and gifts you showered upon me during my mom's brief illness and passing. You and your children were such a comfort to me during a very difficult time. My mother was proud to have a daughter who is a teacher. She loved hearing about my day and the funny things the kids would say and do.
I wish all of you a very Blessed Easter, and a happy, healthy Spring! It's hard to believe we have only one more quarter to go!
