Curriculum Updates
Religion: We were very busy in October praying the rosary and using our bibles. We are "pros" at both now! In November/December we will concentrate on living as children of God, and the season of Advent. In addition to planning the November 7th mass, we are also responsible for the first mass after Christmas break, on January 9th. Hope you can join us! Many fourth graders are now altar servers. I love seeing them serve at 5:00 PM on Saturday, my usual mass. What a wonderful way for them to serve the Lord.
Social Studies: The students have learned so much about the Northeast Region. We continue to learn about its interesting history and hard working people. The children are in the process of making "Flip Books" about this section of our country. We are also memorizing the states and capitals of the NE. Once we finish this chapter, we will tackle the Southeast; lots of interesting history there too!.
Language Arts: We are now into Unit 2 in our Wonders series. This unit focuses on fiction, which includes drama, folktales, and fables. We are almost done with our personal narratives. Editing is complete. All we need to do now is type/publish and present! I have seen steady improvement in the students' writing skills; including punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. There will be some fun writing assignments coming up! Keep an eye out for them!
Science: We have been working in Lesson 2, which covers transfer of energy by electricity. There are a few more fun digital interactive activities coming up. Ask your child to show you! They are accessible in their Connect Ed Inspire site. This lesson will come to an end soon. Our next module will concentrate on transfer of energy by light.
Math: We are almost finished with chapter 4; multiplication by one digit. Chapter 5 covers multiplying with 2 digit numbers. Most students find this challenging. Please remind your child to practice math facts. Most errors are due to fact errors or addition errors; believe it or not. They know the process, but multiply or add incorrectly.
Thanksgiving assignment: The students will have a short assignment to complete on Thanksgiving. They will be interviewing an adult relative, 30 years or older, about how they celebrated Thanksgiving when they were young. There are only a few questions. The children will earn a grade on this assignment. As long as it is complete, colored, written in complete sentences and done neatly, they will earn an "A". It will be a Language Arts grade.
thank you!
I would like to thank all of you for entrusting your children to me every day. I am learning more about their strengths, needs, and personalities every day, as I am sure they are also learning about mine!!! They are a wonderful group; very caring and curious! I wish all of you a joyous Thanksgiving with your families. We have so much to be thankful for!
